ABC Cards

Learning the alphabet is a big milestone for a young child. They will most likely work on it with their parents, teachers, and anyone who wants to sing their ABCs with them. That is why we wanted to create these Bible ABC Cards. This is a great resource to teach children more about the Bible while learning their alphabet. We leaned into the Montessori Method for this activity by implementing the hand to brain methodology with these cards. More on this methodology below. You do not have to complete the steps in making the textured letters for each card if you do not have the time. Your child could simply color the letters or leave them blank. But if you do have the time, we think it is worth it to add the textured letters to each card. Have fun with it! Go to your local craft store and have fun finding all kinds of textured papers in the scrapbook aisle. I had fun with it and found some really interesting patterns!

How to Use These Cards

These cards would be a perfect quiet activity in a church bag. You can quietly trace out each of the letters in the alphabet with your kid while they look at the different images from the Bible. You could also use these Bible ABC cards in your Bible classroom or on a bulletin board. You could tape them along with walls and refer to them with your class. For example, when you learn about Moses, you could talk about how Moses starts with an 'M' then have a child go and find the 'M' on the wall. Just another tool to have in your toolbox as a Bible School teacher.

Hand to Brain Methodology

The Montessori Method leans very heavily on the concept that the hand is connected to the brain. They believe in the idea that the hand and brain are always in communication with each other, therefore you should include touch and feel in learning. When the hands of a young child can be involved with what the child is learning, they will be able to learn more effectively. Since children learn through their senses, connecting touch and feel with learning the alphabet will improve what they are able to learn. This also goes back to our Seeds to Strength Teaching Principle #4, teach through the senses!

Instructions

Bible ABC Cards - Printed

Print off the PDF of the Printed ABC Cards. Cut each one on the dotted line.

Bible ABC Cards - Traced Letters

With Scissors: Print the Letter PDF File and cut out the letters. Then flip the images over and draw the mirror image of each letter on the back of your textured paper. Cut the traced letters out with your scissors. Time for some hand stretches and a good movie while you cut!

With a Cutting Machine (Cricut, Silhouette, etc): Use the Letter SVG File and load into your design software. If your paper is highly textured, your machine may not be able to cut it out. For example, my machine was only able to cut the letters out of two of my papers. If that happens, you can cut the remaining letters out of copy paper, then follow the instructions above of how to cut out letters without a cutting machine.

Bible ABC Cards - Glued

Glue your letters onto each ABC card where the letters are shown.

Bible ABC Cards - Assembled

If using these letters in a church quiet bag, use binder rings to connect all the letters to help keep them in order.
