Reading to your child is so important! It helps them with comprehension skills, develops a bond between you and your child, and creates a love for reading. What is even better though is reading a Bible-based children’s book that will teach your child Christian virtues and truths. Below are some of our favorite books for kids ages infant to sixth grade. Let us know in the comments below what you think of these books and if you have any favorites that we have missed!

Little Words Matter
These are some of our favorite books for babies. Books like Jesus, Noah, and Moses only have one word on each page so they are perfect for little ones. They also are board books with clear images. One negative about these books is that they are no longer in print 🙁 This means that you have to hunt for them online at secondhand book stores like Thriftbooks, Better Word Books, etc. If you can find them though, they are worth it! As you can tell, we have snatched up as many of these children’s books as possible!

Read-N-Grow Picture Bible
If you can find this book, it is pure gold! It has over 1,872 illustrations for about many Bible stories! It is another one that is no longer in print so you have to search for it from secondhand stores, but it is worth it! I love to use this book in my Bible classes. Each week when we review what we covered in the previous weeks, I will quickly flip from story to story in this book so the children can see a quick visual for each story. Then if we need to delve into any details of the Bible story it is very easy to do so. It is also a great book for reading to your own children.
One thing to watch out for with this book is that some of the visuals and stories are not suitable for very young children. Bible stories with violence will show people being hurt or with weapons in people’s hands. Something to be mindful of since you would not want young children flipping through this book on their own.

God Made You Nose to Toes
This is a sweet little book that talks about how God loves us. It has rhymes and colorful illustrations that your child will enjoy. It’s also great for a kid who is learning the parts of their body because every page mentions a different body part. We love this book for reading right before bed. You can go check it out on Amazon here.
If your child is learning the parts of their body, you can also sing our song Work for the Kingdom of the Lord. Then they can sing about all the different parts of their body and how they can use them for the Lord!

Apologetics Press ‘God Made’ Series
Apologetics Press made a great “God Made…” series that goes into some of the amazing things we find in God’s creation. If your kid loves science and exploring the world around them, this is the book series for you! Each book delves into what makes the certain animal, body part, or plant so special and how God’s power is seen through each of these creations.
“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”
Romans 1:20, ESV

A Very Thankful Prayer
This one was gifted to us, and it is so sweet! It is a fall poem book about being thankful for the many blessings that God gives us. Since it does use a lot of fall imagery, it is a great one to read around Thanksgiving too! You could also pair it with singing Count Your Blessings.

Seek and Find
Who doesn’t love a good I Spy book? These Seek and Find books are great as an activity book that you pack in your church bag or in your go-bag. They show different Bible stories and ask kids to look for a certain number of images. The way the book is formatted, a child who is not reading yet could discern what they need to look for because they see just the image and number. They have ones for the Old Testament and New Testament that are both great to try out!

Thought Garden Children’s Book
The Thought Garden Children’s Book is a lovely book written with the intent of teaching your child and you as a parent on how to help your child process their thoughts and emotions in a loving, Christian way. It uses imagery of gardening to explain how to uproot weeds (unhealthy thoughts) and plant good thoughts from God. The author, Laura Jenkins, is a Christian Counselor who even provides additional advice at the end of the book on how to help your child tend their Thought Garden. A definite book to add to your library! We also love the watercolor illustrations!

Baa! Oink! Moo! God Made the Animals
This is a cute little book about how God made the animals. Its a rhyming book that goes through a farm and talks about how God made each and every animal. This is a great book to pair with a lesson on Noah or the Days of Creation. You could even sing Old Man Noah after you read the book. This song is like Old MacDonald, but you say “Old Man Noah built an ark, like God told him to.”
You can find this book here on Amazon.
