Easy Baby Jesus Craft for Little Seeds

Introduction:

Finding a simple teaching craft about Baby Jesus that works for your young twos can be a hard task. This craft works well for their age because it allows the child to do the activity on their own and it has tactile elements too. Have fun as you share the craft and discuss God’s Son at the same time.

Preparation

  • Purchase materials: a. Colored felt that would work well for Baby Jesus clothes or His swaddling blanket. I like to use a light blue color. About 9 inches long for each baby’s body per child. b. Brown, skin tone, and yellow construction paper. c. Wood grain scrapbook paper d. Glue stick, sissors and marker. Note: You can use for the hay, yellow and black paper shred for hair. This will add texture.
  • Cut out pieces that you will need to use for the children to put together the project. a. 11×5.5 rectangular strips of the wood grain scrapbook paper. b. Four inch skin tone diameter circles and felt body part c. Thin yellow strips of construction paper to act as the hay in the manager.
  • Print from freebibleimages.com The Birth of Jesus Bible Story and read Matthew 1:18-24, Luke 1:26-56, 2:1-7. Suggest you laminate these. Go to BibleFunforKids and print and make the stable image that they have free for those who visit their web-site.

Activity

  1. Introduction to activity: Share a picture of you as a baby. Talk about your little hands and feet and what you are wearing. Talk about where you were born. Tell The children that they were once babies, too, and they once had little hands and feet much like yours. Explain that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, was once a Baby, too. Let’s learn about His birth.
  2. Using the images from freeBibleimages and the stable from Kids Bible Fun, refer to the scripture text to tell the childrenabout Jeus’ birth. Point out how Jesus had to be born in a manger or a trough that fed the animals. It was covered in hay or straw and Jesus was laid in it wrapped in rags.
  3. Say a prayer thanking God for His Son Jesus. Sing the song, “Jesus was a Baby”. Hear song below.
    • Jesus, Jesus Jesus was a Baby.
    • Jesus, Jesus Jesus was a Baby.
    • He’s God’s Son.
  4. Show the children your finished “Jesus was born” craft. Tell them you are going to create this craft. You will hand them the pieces to create the project. Hand them the brown construction paper with the letterning at the bottom already done. Then hand them the scrapbook paper and a gluestick so they glue the paper down. They will then add the yellow paper, the felt, and then the head. The children can add the face of their own style or you draw a simple one.
  5. When the project is finished, write the children’s name on their project. Ask the children as a group or individually, “Who was the Baby in our Bible story?” “Who is God’s Son?” They can answer out Jesus or show their picture.
