Introduction
Kids love to move! This is a great activity at home with a little one to work on letters, get their body moving, and most importantly... to teach them that Jesus loves them. With just a few materials and a few minutes you can make this activity and have something that your child can do anytime they want to jump around. If your kid is like ours, that is all the time! It is a great Take 10 to spend 10 minutes with your child teaching them about Jesus one day.
For this activity, we use foam sheets to make blocks that kids can jump on. The thought is that foam sheets are not as slippery as paper. Keep an eye on your little one though. Foam sheets are not slip-resistant, so make sure they are not sliding too much! We did this on hard wood floor and we have not had any falls yet.
Materials
- Foam Sheets (we used these)
- Scissors
- Washable Marker
- An Active Toddler!!!
Instructions
Cut out one foam piece into the shape of a heart. Red or pink work great if you have it!
On the other sheets, write the letters J-E-S-U-S and M-E , one letter on each sheet.
To take this one step further, you can also do the letters for I Love Bible. To do this, on the back of the JESUS letters, write B-I-B-L-E. On the back of the M in ME, write an I. Now you will be able to spell JESUS loves ME, I love BIBLE, and I love JESUS.
Time to start jumping! Lay out your letters on the floor to spell JESUS loves ME. Now jump on each letter while saying what that letter is. When you get to the end, exclaim "Jesus loves me!" This is also a great time to sing Jesus loves me with your little one.
To try new things with this activity, let your little one rearrange the letters. The can do curves, diagonals, and zigzags with the letters so they are jumping in new paths. You can also flip the letters over and spell out I love BIBLE or I love JESUS. Let your child be creative!
Other Activities
Don't stop here! Foam sheets are cheap, so you can easily make other jumping activities with your child. For example, you could do the Books of the Bible, Days of Creation, Apostles, etc. Have fun and get creative 🙂
