This is a fun and easy craft that you can make to let your infant and toddler learn more about the rainbow and God's promise (Genesis 9:1-17). This plush is a great sensory toy for a child as they touch the different textures of the cloth and ribbons.
Materials
- Soft white fabric (I used white minky fabric)
- Ribbons of different colors, textures, and widths. Try to get ROYGBV!
- Sewing machine or thread & needle
- Fabric pins
- Scissors
- Poly-Fil
Instructions
1. Cut two clouds about 6" x 9" out of your soft white fabric. Do this by pinning two pieces of fabric on top of each other (wrong sides together, right sides out). Then cut your freeform cloud out of both layers together.
2. Time to go through your scrap pile! Cut ribbons of various colors, textures, patterns, and widths into 7" lengths. Cut the visible end of the ribbon at an angle to prevent fraying. Try to get lots of ribbon variety for your little one to explore.
3. Test laying out your design to determine the placement of all your ribbons.
4. To start your stitching, you will sew all your ribbons on to the bottom of one cloud on the right side. Lay the ribbons from the bottom of the cloud extending up past the top of the cloud (see picture). You can either pin each ribbon in place on your cloud or manually place them one-by-one as you sew. It's best to use a short stitch on your sewing machine and go back and forth to make sure each ribbon is well attached. Once you get the ribbons attached, lay the other cloud on top, right side of the fabric against the ribbons. Now sew around the whole clouds to join them but leave 1"-2" open to flip the clouds. Flip your cloud right side out. Fill your cloud will poly-fil. Hand stich your cloud closed.
Enjoy! Let your infant touch all the ribbons and the soft cloud. Also, you can tickle their face with the ribbons while singing Arky, Arky or the Rainbow Song.
